Lotus in the Peak
27th - 29th June 2025

Hi everyone. I've just joined the forum and first off... A big hello 👋  and second... I don't have a Lotus! I'm starting to think about buying one... most likely an Elise or an Elan M100. I've seen you're organising Lotus in the Peak at the end of June and I might be able to make it and would love to meet some of you and talk to you about your experiences with your cars at the meetup in Bamford if that's ok?

If not or I can't make it (still trying to arrange my calendar) hope you all have a fantastic day out!

Not tomorrow unfortunately. But thanks for this, I've just learnt something and I've found another place I want to visit 😂

Hey Fox, welcome. Chase your dream.! Each owner seems to have their own, its unique, go for what you fancy the most!

Id wanted an S2 for years, and got one last November. Delighted with it, and expecting it to bring many years of joy,,,,

Ahhh amazing. Are you getting out in it as much as you'd like? I mean I guess there's always a feeling you can be out more 😂

No! And that because of the weather! Its been dire! I have aimed to only have it out in the dry, and Im sticking to it. Ive still managed about 1500 leisure miles in 7 months, so Im happy so far. Looking forward to some consistent sunshine, its got to come soon.....

Welcome to the forum , without doubt the nicest and most knowledgeable lotus forum on the net .
good luck with the car hunt , 2 quiet different cars the Elise and the M100 Elan . Both great fun , but if you want the crystallised pure lotus experience in a relatively modern car it is the Elise every time , and probably an S1 , but the s2 is damn close and considerably easier to live with .  As a guide if your happy to share , how much have to got to sensibly invest ? What are your plans - road, track, road trips in Europe or local Sunday morning blasts ? , where are you based , what are your local roads like ?
enjoy the search and feel free to ask as many questions , silly or sensible as you like 👌

Thanks @richbk!

For me it'll mostly be weekend country road blasts rather than track days. I think I'd find a track day a bit intimidating! I'd also be keen to have something I can look after myself a bit - I'm a bit fed up with modern cars being overly complex and I like the idea of getting my hands dirty servicing or fixing an older car.

I'm currently leaning more to the Elan than the Elise right now, but I don't want to totally discount the Elise yet. I also need to take into account my road is a bit potholey in places and the Elan looks like it sits slightly higher and has a shorter overhang than the Elise which might make it a better option.

Budget is probably in the 10-15k bracket, but if I went for the Elan I'd probably want to make sure I have a decent amount leftover for any fixes etc.

Hey Fox

I just noticed that you are from my part of the world!

The good news is that if you didn’t want to do all the servicing yourself we have an excellent independent Lotus specialist on our doorstep (   Chris Foulds in Honley)

I appreciate that you are leaning towards an Elan, but if you wanted to have a look at/ ride out in my Elise S3 , you’d be most welcome

cheers,

Duncan

Ah amazing... I know Honley fairly well so it's nice to know there's a specialist nearby!

Thanks for the kind offer too! I don't know much about the S3 though... How do you find it copes with some of the questionable roads around here?
